I shaved my head right before my 31st birthday. The combo of a new climate, a terrible haircut and a lot of emotional upheaval. At the end, I decided I didn't need hair. and since it always seemed to be a problem, I simply eliminated the problem. People have always commented on my looks, but lately it has been overwhelmingly positive. it "set my face free" I also have a LOT more free time. My hair was a beautiful huge multicolored two strand twist afro. not to mention the money I save on styling products. I've been asked if I have cancer, told "a woman should have hair" been asked if I was a "man hating lesbian" it runs the gambit. I HAVE received a lot fewer racist comments, so there is THAT at least. Don't be afraid. it is just hair. we fret and stress about something that is not even a necessity to survival... The first month sucks. it just sucks. there is no way around the self doubt and questioning of your femininity once you cut it all off. address it head on, then, buy a great lipstick and keep on stepping.
