Why are you a Baldie?
I suffer from alopecia, in my case male-pattern baldness.
What challenges have you faced as a bald woman?
There are so many hangups. People assume it's a choice. And while it is a choice I made, it wasn't a choice to be bald per say... it was a choice to stop hiding behind wigs and weaves, to let go of my insecurities, and to proudly embrace my condition and by natural beauty.
How did you overcome the insecurities of being bald?
I had an ex-boyfriend who used my baldness to keep me. He told me he was the only one who knew who I truly was and he was the only one who would accept me as such. Well, he left me anyway. And a couple of months later I just went into the bathroom, removed my wig, and commenced to shave off my "George Jefferson"... LOL! It was one of the most liberating moments of self-awareness that a woman could possibly have. The picture is that moment the years ago when I bravely made that decision.
What words of encouragement would you share with someone who isn't confident with their baldness?
You ARE beautiful. Don't let society dictate to you what beauty SHOULD be. Don't let anyone discourage you from being a naturally beautiful and bald woman. It takes heart and a lot of courage, but once you do embrace your baldness, you'll realize how empowering it really is to be beautiful, even if it isn't the status quo.
My Bald is...BEEEEEEEEEEEAUTIFUL!
