Eczema and Hair...my journey! I've dealt with horrible bouts of eczema my entire life. As I got older, it got worse. I later found that my hair was a large contributing factor to my irritations, especially to my face and neck.
I've had all hairstyles, chemicals and natural. But before the big chop, I had cut my hair into a short cute style, and stopped using relaxers. Once I stopped using chemical relaxers, I figured I was home free. That was totally not the case. I still had issues/irritation. I then noticed that the shampoo/conditioner chemicals were killing me (not literally) but really causing some serious flareups. No matter how much I rinsed my hair of the shampoo/conditioner, small amounts would still be in my hair and when I would sweat, those chemicals would combine and run down my face and neck. No matter the brand, nor ingredients, I suffered.
In 1998, I decided to just cut it all off. I had a very low even-steven cut, and to my surprise the flares and irritation eased up greatly. I couldn't believe the difference. I wore my hair low/bald, if you will, for years. In 2009, I decided to let my hair grow back naturally because I wanted locs. BAD IDEA!! I really tried and used other products that catered to sensitive skin but nothing worked for me.
On January 1, 2011, I had locs at the time and I had them cut off to return back to the bald girl team for good!! Don't get me wrong, I still have eczema (the blemishes, the uneven skin tones and all); however, the irritations that were causing me great grief due to my hair are NO MORE!!
My skin is happier, and I AM HAPPY!! I will be this way FOREVER and I HAPPILY rock-n it!!
